LuChuan & DongYi are master blacksmiths who embody both a raw, rustic authenticity and a profound artistic spirit. Their latest creation, the Rift Sconce, fully retains the organic textures left by the hammer and searing heat, allowing light to radiate outward through its fissures.
The dark, brutalist steel plate with its deep scale and imperfections—the poetry of DongYi—is held fast by the strong structural logic of LuChuan’s parallel pillars and heavy rivets. The defining touch was the placement of the light. Hidden behind the brutalist plate, a single bulb shines directly through the cross-shaped rift, like a ancient star breaking through a dark, cracked wall. The backwash of light against the wall behind the rift, and the shadows cast by the pillars, create a dynamic play of old and new, force and structure.
The final piece, named the Rift Sconce, is a monument to their combined skill.
